# `confirmation_invalid`

**Status 428.** The confirmation does not match this request, or has expired.

## What it means

The confirmation sent in `Matrix-Confirmation` cannot be used. `reason` says why: `expired` (it is older than 10 minutes), `wrong_request` (the key, member, body or `Idempotency-Key` differ from the preview's) or `malformed` (it is not a confirmation this API issued).

## What to do

Preview the request again with `?dry_run=true`, then send the new confirmation with exactly the request you previewed: the same key, member, body and `Idempotency-Key`.

## Safe to send again?

Not as it is. Change what the answer points to, then send the request.

## What else the answer carries

- `reason`: `expired` (preview again), `wrong_request` (the key, member, body or Idempotency-Key differ from the preview) or `malformed` (not a confirmation this API issued). With `invalid_request` on a webhook `url`: what is wrong with the address, as listed under `WebhookEndpointRequest`.
