# `unauthenticated`

**Status 401.** No usable API key was presented.

## What it means

No usable key came with the request. A missing, mistyped, unknown or revoked key, and an old secret after its rotation window has closed, all get this same answer, on purpose: the differences would tell someone guessing keys how close they came.

## What to do

Check that the `Authorization` header holds `Bearer` and then the whole key. After a rotation, use the new key.

## Safe to send again?

Not as it is. Change what the answer points to, then send the request.
