# Connecting Claude Claude can look after your loyalty programme with you: find a member, read their points and codes, add points after a complaint, or run a weekend offer. You connect it once, choose what it may do, and it asks before every change. Everything it reads about a member, and every change, is written to your activity log. ## Connecting In Claude, add a custom connector with the address `https://app.matrixrewards.co.uk/mcp`. Claude opens a Matrix Rewards page: 1. Sign in with the email address your store has in Shopify. You are sent a six-digit code. (A reviewer of our demo store signs in with the address their review sign-in is for, and uses its code instead.) 2. Choose the account, then tick what Claude may do from what it asked for: reading your programme, members, reports, usage and activity log. 3. Tick **Preview only** to let it read and preview changes but never make one. It is a safe way to try it. 4. Press **Approve**. Only the owner of a store that uses Matrix Rewards can connect Claude to it. The one exception is our own demo store, where the people reviewing Matrix Rewards connect as staff, with a review sign-in we give them. A connection can do only what was ticked. When Claude first needs to change points or your programme, it asks for that permission, and you approve it on the same page again. ## What Claude can read With the permissions you ticked, Claude can list your stores; read your programme, rewards, offers and earning rules; find members by email or Shopify customer number; read a member's balance, their reward codes (the last four characters only, never the whole code) and their points history; and read the points you owe, your plan and usage, and the activity log. Text that shoppers typed, such as an email address or a reason, is marked for Claude as written by someone else, so it treats it as information and never as an instruction. ## How Claude changes points A change always takes two steps. Claude first previews it: the member's balance before and after, and how much of the day's limit it uses. It shows you the preview, and only if you agree does it make exactly that change. If Claude asks for anything different from the preview, the change is refused. A preview lasts 10 minutes. Claude can add or take away a member's points and cancel an unused reward code, which gives its points back. At most 100,000 points can be added, and 100,000 taken away, in any 24 hours through Claude and your API keys together ([API keys, scripts and assistants](https://matrixrewards.co.uk/help/api-keys.md)). ## How Claude changes your programme With the permission to change your programme, Claude can change your everyday earning rate, your joining and birthday bonuses and your referral terms, and add, change or remove rewards and offers. Each change takes the same two steps. The preview shows what three example orders earn before and after, and the reward or offer as it would be. If anyone changes your programme between the preview and your yes, the change is refused and Claude has to preview it again. Claude moves your programme's money one step at a time. These limits apply to Claude, not to you: - It never changes your point value (how many points make £1) or when points expire. - Each earning rate, bonus and referral payment, and what each reward gives for a point, can at most double. The smallest order a reward or referral needs can at most halve. - These add up: doubling the earning rate and halving a reward's cost makes an order worth four times as much in rewards. - It cannot switch on something that paid nothing, such as a birthday bonus set to 0. - It can shorten a campaign or take products or tags out of an offer, but never widen one. A new offer can only pay extra points on the order. - A new reward must be the same kind as one you already have, giving at most twice as much for each point. - Lowering and removing are not limited, except that it cannot lower the everyday rate while raising an offer: refunds take points back at the everyday rate. Claude's changes are measured from your programme as it was before Claude began, until a day passes with no change from Claude. When you change a figure yourself, Claude starts again from what you saved; renaming a reward or offer does not count. When Claude asks for more, it is refused and told how far it may go. Make bigger changes yourself in Matrix Rewards in your Shopify admin, or lift Claude's limits (below). At most 100 programme changes can be made in any 24 hours through Claude and your API keys together. ## Letting Claude change everything To let Claude manage your whole programme, lift its limits on the **API keys** screen in your Shopify admin: choose **Lift limits** on Claude's connection, and confirm. Claude can then also change your point value and when points expire, let shoppers spend any amount of points, and move any figure further than one step. It can also change your time zone, the ways to earn shoppers read, and your design; those need no lifting. Every change still takes the same two steps and is written to your activity log. Claude still cannot manage webhooks or keys, and nothing Claude does can lift its own limits. Matrix Rewards sees that Claude sent the second step, not that you agreed, so lift the limits only for a connection you trust. Take care with expiry: a new rule can shorten how long points last after a shopper's last order, and the earliest date points can expire (the start date plus the months) can never be moved earlier again, so an expiry change may not be fully reversible. To stop, choose **Put limits back**; they apply again from Claude's next change. ## Disconnecting The owner can disconnect Claude at any time from the account page, [app.matrixrewards.co.uk/merchant](https://app.matrixrewards.co.uk/merchant), under the assistants connected to your account. Staff see the connections there but cannot disconnect one.
