“Points on this product”
A line on each product page saying what buying it would earn. Set up has a one-click link that adds it to your product page.
Matrix Rewards is a working points programme the moment you install it. The steps below are the whole of it: what is already running, what you can change, and where your shoppers will see it.
A points programme has four moves: a paid order earns points, a shopper spends points on a reward, the reward becomes a single-use discount code at checkout, and a refund takes points back in proportion to what was refunded, never more than that order earned. Matrix Rewards recounts every balance from the full history each time.
Free for 200 orders a month that earn points. Available on the Shopify App Store.

Home: what you owe your shoppers, and what needs you.
Install from the App Store. A working programme is seeded on install: 1 point per unit of your store's currency, one reward, and referrals on. There is nothing to configure before it works.
Everything after this step is optional. You can change the rate, the rewards and the look whenever you like, but your shoppers can earn on their next paid order as things stand.
Open Set up. It suggests a rate and rewards for your kind of store, and shows the reasoning behind each suggestion, so you know why it is proposing what it proposes.
If your margin is thin, it tells you to lower the rate. Take the suggestions or keep the seeded programme; either way, points are already being earned.

Set up: suggested rates and rewards for your kind of store, with the reasoning.
Programme holds three things: points per £1, what a point is worth, and the rewards your shoppers can take.
The panel beside each field shows what an order would earn as you type, so you can see what a change means before you save it.
Shoppers see their points in three places: two theme blocks on the storefront and a Rewards page inside their account. All three are set from one screen in the app, Design, with a live preview as you change them. Colour and type style the two theme blocks; the account page takes its look from your Shopify checkout branding, and its words and sections from Design.

A storefront block showing a shopper their balance and the rewards they can take. Add it in the theme editor: Add block › Apps.
New customer accounts must be on. Then Settings › Checkout › Customize › Apps › Add page to Accounts, and take “Add to menu” when it is offered.
The setup page has each of these as a checklist, with what to do if a step looks wrong. Read the setup steps.
As soon as the store tells us an order is paid, its points are on the shopper’s balance. That takes seconds, not a nightly run.
Only paid orders earn. An order that is placed but not paid earns nothing.
You set what each reward is worth. When a shopper takes one, it becomes a single-use discount code, and they enter it at checkout like any other code.
One code, one use: once it has been spent at checkout it cannot be entered again.
When you refund an order, by items or by amount, its points come back out in the same share as what was refunded, bonuses included, and never more than that order earned in the first place.
Nothing to do by hand. The claw-back is written into the shopper’s history like any other line, and their balance is recounted from it.
Reports shows the points outstanding across all your shoppers and what they would cost you if every one were spent. Download it as a CSV for your accountant.
Members lists each shopper with their full history: every earn, spend and refund, in order.

Reports: outstanding points, what they would cost, and a CSV to download.
Three things are off until you choose them. None of them is needed for the programme to run.
Off by default. If you switch it on, the shortest period allowed is 12 months. Points never quietly lapse sooner than that — see Do points expire?
Off until you choose it. Nothing is paid to anyone until you switch it on.
Off until you choose it, and only paid to a shopper who chose to give their birthday. We ask for day and month only, never the year.
Points are money you owe. So a balance is never a number we nudge up or down: each time it changes, it is added up again from every earn, spend and refund on record. A ledger, not a counter.
An earn, a spend, a refund, a bonus: each is a line in the shopper’s history, and the balance is the sum of those lines. Members shows you each shopper’s full history.
A refund takes back that order’s points in proportion to what was refunded, and never more than the order earned. If it leaves a shopper owing points, a reward code they can no longer afford is switched off.
No name, phone or address. The email is how a shopper’s history is kept together, and it is the only protected field the app touches.
Free for 200 orders a month that earn points. The meter counts only the orders that earned points, not orders placed, not refunds, not redemptions. A store that installs and switches nothing on is metered at zero.
