Getting started
After you install Matrix Rewards, open Set up in your Shopify admin. Pick the kind of shop nearest to yours and press This is my shop to see a suggested programme and what it costs you, then Apply these settings. Last, place the rewards where customers will see them. Paid orders earn points from then on.
Choose a programme
Set up suggests an earn rate, a joining bonus, rewards and referral terms for the kind of shop you run, with what they cost you and an honest note on whether points suit your shop at all. Under Adjust it for your own margin, check the suggestion against your gross margin: if the two disagree, your margin wins. If none of the kinds fits your shop, press Set my own numbers: it changes nothing, and lists where each number is set on Programme.
Apply these settings replaces your current rates, joining bonus, rewards and referral terms. Any other ways your customers earn, such as an offer you added, are kept, and nothing already earned changes. You can change every number later on Programme (Setting up your programme).
Put the rewards where customers will see them
Customers earn whether or not they can see their points, but a programme nobody finds is one nobody chases. There are three places:
- A line on each product page saying how many points that product earns. On Design, press Add to product page: your theme editor opens with the block ready to place. Save the theme.
- The rewards panel, with a customer's balance, what they can get and how to earn more, on a page of its own. In Shopify, open Online Store, Pages, Add page: call it Rewards and save it. In your theme editor, use the menu at the top to make a page template named rewards (Pages, Create template), add the Rewards block to it (Add section, Apps, Rewards) and Save. Then open your Rewards page again and set its Theme template to rewards. The template keeps the panel off your other pages: Shopify puts a block added to a template on every page that uses it.
- A Rewards page in your customers' accounts, where they spend points. In Shopify, open Settings, Checkout, Customize, then a customer account page: in the Apps panel, choose Matrix Rewards and add the page, then take the offer to add it to the account menu. Save.
Shopify styles the account page with your checkout and accounts branding, so its colours come from there, not from Matrix Rewards.
The account page can also link to the Matrix Rewards website, where your customers sign in with their email to see the points they hold at each store that uses Matrix Rewards. It stays off until you tick Show a link to the Matrix Rewards website on Design.
Your customers see your store under the name it has in Shopify. To show a different name, type it in Store name customers see on Design and save. It shows wherever a customer is told which shop: the account page, the list of shops sharing a balance, and the Matrix Rewards website. Leave it empty to use the name your store has in Shopify.
Your logo and brand colour show beside your store's name on the Matrix Rewards website. They come from Shopify (Settings → Brand). To use others, open Design, choose the Matrix Rewards website tab, upload a logo or pick your colours, check the preview, and save. The same tab sets the font your store's name and points are written in there: pick one from the list, or leave it empty for ours.
Where your shops share one balance, the account page also lists your other shops under "Where else you can spend your points", each linked to its website. On Design, in the account page's "Where else your customers can spend" box, you choose which shops show and the web address each one opens; an empty address opens the shop's Shopify address. A shop that does not share the balance is never listed.
Check it is working
Place a paid order as a customer, then look them up on Members: the points appear once Shopify tells us the order is paid. A refund takes back the refunded goods' share of what the order earned.
